Senior Data Scientist (FT-Edison)

The Senior Data Scientist seeks to revolutionize healthcare quality through the development, validation, and full scale integration of data-driven products and solutions into every aspect of the healthcare delivery system. The position will apply machine learning and computational statistics techniques to clinical, and operational data to create immense value for patients, providers and our community. Individuals in this role are expected to be comfortable developing software products and a quantitative researcher.

Responsibilities


A day in the life of an Senior Data Scientist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
  • Work closely with clinicians and administrators to find and lead initiatives that answer important healthcare questions with appropriate statistical techniques on available data.
  • Responsible for the end-to-end creation and deployment of new analytic software products that distill complex data into actionable and timely insights in HMH workflows.
  • Co-develop efficient analytic pipelines that include reusable components related to data acquisition, exploratory analyses, data storytelling, feature extraction, modeling, and AI product services. 
  • Communicate findings to clinicians, administrators, and external organizations.
  • Define the need and value proposition for acquiring/capturing new data sources and the requirements to refine existing data sources.
  • Lead data evaluation, data mining, and analysis techniques for new data sources.
  • Mentor junior team members to ensure.
  • Advances organization-wide data and AI literacy through cross-disciplinary education and mentorship. 
  • Work closely with a team of developers and researchers to conduct scholarly work at the intersection of machine learning and health.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications


Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in data scientist, software engineer with predictive modeling, or similar experience of solving real problems with data mining and machine learning techniques
  • Fluency with statistical and ML techniques such as DNN, decision trees, neural networks, graphical models, clustering, and dimension reduction. 
  • Proficiency with existing deep learning libraries (i.e. TensorFlow, PyTorch, Caffe2) and machine learning packages (i.e. sklearn).
  • Fluency in coding in C++, Java, or Python.
  • Familiarity with continuous deployment and integration approaches
  • A strong passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
  • Masters of Science degree in a related field and 5 years of relevant experience.
  • PhD degree in a related field and 3 years of relevant experience.
