2023 Environmental and Safety Engineer/Specialist Intern

New hires in office-based roles in the US & Puerto Rico will be required, subject to applicable law, to demonstrate that they have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or qualify for a medical or religious exemption to this vaccination requirement that can be accommodated without an undue burden to the operation. Job Description:

Assist with safety and environmental compliance related tasks such as incident evaluation/follow-up, preparation of regulatory submissions and development of EHS improvement plans and projects. Projects may include:

  • Assisting with the implementation of an enhanced near miss reporting system including communication, systems development, trend analysis, and development/implementation of corrective and preventive actions
  • Assisting with the development of an electronic system for tracking waste streams including characterization and approval of outlets for recycling and or disposal
  • Assisting with a waste minimization review of non-hazardous waste streams for additional recycling or reuse opportunities
  • Assisting with the development and review of demolition, decontamination and/or decommissioning plans for facilities
  • Support with department and area safety inspections throughout the site
  • Enhancing the system for organizing EHS incident files
  • Assisting with preparing a regulatory submission to update the Predictive Emissions Monitoring System (PEMS) model for boilers to expand operating ranges

Required Education and Skills:

  • Candidates must be currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science or other technical degree.
  • Candidates must have completed at least 2 years of college coursework
  • Candidates must be able to work full time for a period of 9-12 weeks
  • Candidates must have critical thinking, communication, problem solving and computer skills
  • Candidates must have the ability to receive verbal or written direction and implement corresponding changes

Disclaimer: The position will require you to go into the chemical manufacturing environment where there are hazardous materials and antibiotics in some areas.
