Volastra Therapeutics, Inc. is a platform-based biotechnology company formed from the laboratory of Dr. Lewis Cantley, along with Drs. Olivier Elemento and Samuel Bakhoum. Volastra Therapeutics is dedicated to the discovery and development of treatments for patients with metastatic cancers. The Company’s therapies will target novel pathways and apply insights gained from its scientific founders into chromosomal instability (CIN) and its clear association with the formation, progression, and maintenance of metastasis. Utilizing an integrated multi-omics approach with high content analytics in metastasis-derived organoids, the team at Volastra plans to identify and quickly validate novel therapies to shift the treatment paradigm in metastatic cancers. The company was honored to be named on Fierce Biotech’s 2022 Fierce 15. 
The Intern on the Data Science team will work closely with the Computational Biologists and the scientific team to achieve the company’s integrative multi-omics approach to understand chromosomal instability in metastatic cancers. The Intern will work within the team to develop and execute ETL workflows to support the scientific team’s strategic plans and the overall company vision. Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 
  • Work with the team to develop dashboards to provide visibility to existing data 
  • Generate reusable data sets for analysis 
  • Optimization of queries and dashboards 
  • Designing dashboards with UX/UI in mind 
  • Requirements gathering and documentation for design decisions 
  • Write well documented code  
Currently enrolled in MS Program or Undergraduate Senior in a quantitative field (bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, information systems, etc.) 
Required Skills: 
  • Working knowledge of Python, R, Scala, Bash scripting 
  • Experience with SQL and database structures 
  • Experience working in Linux environments and high-performance cluster computing 
  • Experience building dashboards with a data visualization tool 
  • Ability to communicate with non-technical stakeholders 
Preferred Skills: 
  • Experience working in a cloud environment 
  • Experience with bioinformatics data 
  • Experience building apps with R Shiny, Django or Flask 
  • Experience working with databricks 
  • Experience with GitHub
