BIG-TCR Undergraduate Summer Internship Program Application - Summer 2023-Deadline extended.

The UTHealth Biomedical Informatics, Genomics and Translational Cancer Research Training Program (BIG-TCR) is focused on training next-generation researchers and leaders in the field of cancer research. BIG-TCR has been generously funded by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) to provide interns the opportunity to gain invaluable hands-on research experience through a 10-week training program.

UTHealth at Houston is recruiting outstanding undergraduate students across the nation who are interested in cancer research to participate in a summer internship opportunity. The program is a 10-week internship focusing on research training in the field of biomedical informatics, genomics, and translational cancer research (BIG-TCR) under the supervision of UTHealth faculty.

Eligibility
● Candidates must be currently enrolled undergraduate students from the US.
● International students who hold a valid visa throughout the duration of the program are eligible to apply.
● Candidates should be majoring in a field related to quantitative or biological sciences, including but not limited to biology, chemistry, physics, pre-med, statistics, mathematics, computer science, and bioengineering.
● Candidates must be available to live and work in Texas during the internship to meet the stipend requirements following compliance of the CPRIT training program. Interns who are unable to work in Texas (in-person or remotely) will be ineligible to receive the stipend.

Summer Internship Guidelines
Applicants who have passed the pre-screening process will be notified of the next step in the application. The BIG-TCR team will coordinate the interviews between candidates and summer internship mentors from UTHealth. Applicants are also encouraged to contact the UTHealth faculty they might be interested in working under for summer internship. The Internship will take place from June 5th, 2023, to August 11, 2023 (Tentative). All accepted candidates are expected to attend the entire 10-week training program. Should accepted candidates be unable to attend the program, they must inform the BIG-TCR team as soon as possible. Depending on the form of the internship, the trainees will be expected to be present at UTHealth in Houston for registration and the annual retreat. During the internship, the mentor and intern’s lab members will be responsible for the project design and supervision of trainee’s progress. The trainees will present the progress of their projects at the BIG-TCR annual retreat at the conclusion of the program in August 2023.

Program Benefits
● If the candidate will be working in Texas during the internship (either in-person or remotely), a $6,000 stipend will be provided to cover housing, travel, and living expenses.
