Scientist
Position Location: Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA
We are currently recruiting for a Scientist. The position is located at our Lake Charles Chemical Complex within the Research and Development Department.
Purpose of Job
Provides technical support to lead scientists and OIS research group’s efforts in specific areas of interest. The person is expected to participate in the writing of technical abstracts and papers for publication in scientific journals as well as to be an active contributor in generating IP materials.
Key Accountabilities
- Demonstrates feasibility of technical solutions to key problems/issues within the research group and project teams
- Critically evaluates, documents, and presents experimental or analytical results
- Responsible for understanding Sasol's procedures for securing intellectual property
- Ensures efforts are aligned with the global research group and project teams
- Competent regarding key instrumentation and standard techniques commonly used in the laboratory
- Embraces, supports, and encourages a safety culture for themselves and within the department
Formal Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Petroleum Engineering - required
- Advanced degrees (entry-level position for PhD candidates) - preferred
Working Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years’ experience or 2+ years’ experience for advanced degrees - required
- Experience in 2 or more of the core areas below - required:
- General surfactant applications
- Wettability changers/Cleaning formulations
- Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) techniques
- Drilling fluids formulations (OBM, WBM)
- Emulsifiers/Demulsifiers
- Cementing/Construction
- Pulp & Paper or Water Treatment
- Mining
- The ideal candidate should also demonstrate proficiency in the design of various formulations commonly used in the fields above
Required Personal & Professional Skills
- A positive attitude and a collaborative mindset
- Ability to define and implement ideas and solutions to address customer requests
- Ability to work on fast-paced projects as well as on long term projects
- Excellent verbal and technical writing skills
