IT Vendor Management Intern

June - August 2021 • Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ

What I liked

The company culture was great and I learned a lot this summer about the inner workings of the IT department in relation to the procurement team.

What I wish was different

It was remote this summer, so it would've been great if we were able to be in-person and working in the office.

Advice

Make as many connections as possible! Even if it's just facetime with a higher-up, every interaction counts.

IT Business Analyst Intern

June - August 2021 • Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ

What I liked

Lots of great events hosted even though it was a remote experience. Leadership speaker series was offered so executives within the company could offer their advice to students. Managers were very helpful and gave great advice. Projects were very meaningful as well and interns feel like they are contributing to the company. The company really takes their time with the interns and wants to see them grow.

What I wish was different

I heard the in person experience was much better so I wish that was the case. Other than that it was great!

Advice

Try your best and don't try to be nervous. Everyone is very open to giving advice to interns and are very helpful. Take advantage of the times where you have an opportunity to ask questions.

Engineering Co-op (process engineering)

May 2019 • Cedar City, UT

What I liked

Everyone is very helpful and willing to work with me and help me learn. A great team environment that really focuses on progressive and agile industry practices. Safe and sustainable healthy workplace behavior is implemented daily. I have been treated as part of the team and given meaningful tasks and projects. From the beginning they have expected me to work hard, learn and get my job done which shows me that they trust in me and know that I am capable. Instead of negatively pressuring they constructively encourage and instruct me on methods to continually be better at what I do. I really appreciate that they give me freedom to do my job as I see best fit, but are readily available if I have questions. I have felt that my opinions, questions and comments have been heard and encouraged. This has been a valuable experience that has given me insight as to what the different roles are and how I can contribute effectively to the workforce.

What I wish was different

The only thing I have been left wanting is more time to follow the engineers in more meetings and other day to day logistics. Many people may find it boring, but I feel that would give me a better idea of how each part of the job affects the others in the "big picture". That being said my experience has been great and I have been given many responsibilities and projects that have been a fantastic learning experience. Some internships have a lot of busy work that nobody else wants to do, but I did not feel that has been the case here. I know my role and why it is important and feel glad to do it.

Advice

Don't be afraid to talk to the people around you and ask questions and opinions. You can't expect to always come up with the best ideas and methods for everything on your own, so use a wide variety of resources.

Engineering Co-op

May - August 2018 • Gainesville, TX

What I liked

You are giving the opportunity to take on tasks that interests you. Whether it is in your skill set or not. If you have an idea, they will collaborate or connect you with people who can help.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish would have been different was that I could've had a 6 month Co-op to learn a lot more.

Advice

The most valuable thing I learned was to be proactive in looking for projects and assignments. I spent too much time waiting for my boss to give me a project. At the end, I realized that I could've asked people if they wanted any help or ask my boss about any projects I was interested in jumping onto.
