U.S. Bank

Database Administration Intern

June - August 2021 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

I enjoyed the people at U.S Bank because they believed in a work life balance and it wasn't always just work. Making a connection with coworkers is important for me as well.

What I wish was different

I really wish that the pandemic wouldn't have been an issue throughout this internship because it was hard to go through internship being remote. I'm sure an in person experience would be a lot better.

Advice

Internships and experiences are what you make of it. It doesn't matter what company or who you are working with, its up to you to make your own time worthwhile.

Wealth Management and Investment Services Intern

June - August 2021 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

A lot of hands on work. Was able to bring value to the team instead of doing busy work.

What I wish was different

There were communication problems when switching rotations. Managers were unaware of what tasks to give out.

Advice

Try to stay engaged and ask your manager for tasks. If they see you're interested you are more likely to get a good return offer.

Business Analyst Intern

June - August 2021 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

I liked getting exposure to upper management through the large project assigned to us at the beginning of the internship.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been a greater focus on professional development, while still balancing the need for autonomy in the workplace.

Advice

I would recommend that anyone who works at U.S. Bank to make sure to ask frequent questions and take initiative if you see an interesting project or task.

Integrated Marketing Intern

May - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Integrated Marketing in the eyes of the bank has a lot to do with technology and customer data. I received such great insight into marketing technologies - specifically Adobe, however, they all operate in similar fashions. They were also extremely inviting to new ideas and concepts - even those that has nothing to do with technologies I was working on. For example, I thought of an idea for a marketing campaign and my boss allocated time for me to pursue that. U.S. Bank has a program set up for interns, which also involves getting to have presentations for the senior leaders at the Bank. Those presentations were extremely transparent and interns were allowed to ask questions, which was nice for networking opportunities.

What I wish was different

In my opinion, it was difficult to work in Marketing when I was not working at the headquarters in Minneapolis. You are on the phone the majority of the time and don't get the face to face contact that makes communicating definitely easier.

Advice

Ask a ton of questions - sometimes as interns I think we believe we shouldn't be making our bosses lives even busier by filling it with intern type questions, but they do value that time and it shows you are invested in the work you are doing.
