Recreation Therapy Internship

The Cosumnes Community Services District (District) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of the residents, businesses, visitors, and employees within our diverse community. We are seeking candidates who are looking to grow, develop, and have a passion for Recreation. The internships at the District are part-time, temporary positions.

Our Internships provide active college students with opportunities to grow, explore career paths, and connect with others in their field of study. In addition, interns have the opportunity to make positive contributions and serve the community in a meaningful way.

Recreation Therapy Internship:
This program is designed for students in their final semester. Students must be registered at the University for the Internship the same semester that they begin the internship in an accredited Recreation Therapy program. The internship will be a minimum of 560 hours (40 hours a week, 14 weeks). Additionally, if the intern completes 650 hours, the District will pay for the NCTRC exam. This internship will meet the requirements for the NCTRC Job Task Analysis.

Applicants for this internship must attach a Resume, Cover Letter, and at least one letter of Recommendation to their application.

Objectives of Internship include:
 

  1. To apply academic knowledge of therapeutic recreation in a practice setting
  2. To develop clinical practice skills and abilities under the guidance of a professionally certified Recreation Therapist
  3. To assess and expand the student’s competencies in therapeutic recreation
  4. To acquire an in-depth understanding of how therapeutic recreation in health and human service delivery systems
  5. To develop and practice ethical and professional behaviors in a work setting
  6. To develop an understanding of critical issues related to the practice of therapeutic recreation

Please note: The intern is required to complete a project approved by the agency supervisor.

Internship Periods:
The internship typically runs from August through December, depending on internship requirements.
 

 

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities may be considered qualifying at the sole discretion of the District. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

 Minimum Qualifications:
 

  • Must be enrolled in college as a student and working towards a bachelor's or graduate degree in Parks & Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field;
  • Applicants must be over the age of 18.


Special Requirement:
 

  • Students must be registered at the University for the Internship in the same semester they begin the internship in an accredited Recreation Therapy program.
