POSITION: Student Pharmacy Intern
DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy Operations
SUPERVISOR: Pharmacy Manager
Primary Objective: To support Thrifty White Pharmacy operations while gaining hands-on experience and developing competencies in pharmacy workflow, regulatory compliance, clinical services, medication management, and patient care under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in a structured 13-week training program including modules on regulatory compliance, inventory management, data entry, patient counseling, and clinical pharmacy services.
- Assist with prescription intake, data entry, filling, verification preparation, and dispensing through TWRx and PatientRxicity systems.
- Conduct patient engagement efforts and support medication therapy management (MTM), including prescription adherence services such as Ready Refill, Rx MedSync, and HealthyPackRx.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, loss prevention, safety standards, and controlled substance handling.
- Support inventory management including ordering, labeling, and return-to-stock.
- Participate in clinical service offerings such as immunizations, A1C testing, and wellness programs.
- Document workflows and patient interactions appropriately and follow up on prior authorizations and insurance claim resolutions.
- Collaborate with pharmacists, technicians, and clerks to ensure smooth daily pharmacy operations and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Complete all assigned online coursework, hands-on training activities, and SOP reviews within required timeframes.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Current enrollment in an accredited Pharmacy program.
- Basic understanding of pharmacy operations and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Comfortable using computer systems; willing to learn proprietary software including TWRx and PatientRxicity.
- Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all patient interactions.
