Automation Engineer

What you'll accomplish with us

• Develop and deploy software to control a wide variety of lab automation equipment, from Opentrons to Tecan and Hamilton systems

• Design abstraction layers and robot-agnostic protocols that map scientific intent into executable methods

• Partner with scientists to define standard workflows and automate complex wet lab procedures

• Collaborate with backend and ML engineers to ensure seamless integration with Pedal's OS and intelligent agents

• Drive improvements in protocol reusability, robustness, and simulation tooling
 

Requirements

• Experience with lab automation scripting (Python, JSON-based protocol formats, or proprietary SDKs)

• Familiarity with instrumentation used in synthetic chemistry or biology (e.g., pipetting systems, plate readers, heaters)

• Proven ability to troubleshoot physical workflows and integrate with hardware APIs

• Clear communication and documentation habits, especially for technical protocols
 

Preferred

• Knowledge of emerging automation standards (e.g., SiLA, LAP, etc)

• Experience building simulators, schedulers, or data pipelines for lab control systems

• Comfort working across both engineering and scientific teams
