Registered Behavior Technician

Summary of Position

A Behavior Technician (BT) plays a crucial role in providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. The BT works under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to implement individualized treatment plans designed to increase functional, socially significant skills and decrease maladaptive behaviors. 

Essential Responsibilities

The following duties and tasks are necessary for the successful performance of the role and are considered critical to achieving the goals and objectives.

Clinical Service Delivery

  • Implement 1:1 ABA therapy sessions focusing on communication, social, and daily living skills as outlined in the treatment plan.
  • Utilize evidence-based behavior reduction strategies to safely manage and de-escalate maladaptive behaviors according to the Individualized Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).
  • Ensure the safety of the client and the environment at all times, adhering to Company safety protocols and universal precautions.
  • Provide services across varied environments, including [In-Home, Clinic, School, and Community] settings, maintaining professional boundaries in all locations.

Data Collection & Compliance

  • Collect and graph real-time data on target behaviors and skill acquisition goals using Company software and respective methodology. 
  • Draft objective, clinical session notes that clearly document the client’s response to the intervention and progress toward goals.
  • Ensure all documentation meets Medicaid and private insurance requirements for medical necessity and audit readiness.

Professionalism & Communication

  • Act as a professional representative of the Company when interacting with parents, caregivers, and school personnel.
  • Direct all parent/guardian clinical concerns, goal modifications, or progress inquiries to the supervising BCBA.
  • Participate in all required clinical supervision, team meetings, and professional development sessions.
  • Adhere to all state-specific laws and Company policies regarding the reporting of suspected child abuse or neglect.

Travel & Operations

  • Maintain reliable transportation to travel between client locations (homes, schools, or clinics) as scheduled.
  • Promptly communicate any schedule changes, cancellations, or safety concerns to your supervisor and administrative team.

RBT Certification (as applicable)

  • Monitor and track supervision hours consistently, ensuring logs are accurate, up to date, and submitted per company and BACB requirements.
  • Take full ownership of your certification by understanding and managing all recertification requirements, including supervision quotas, renewal timelines, and continuing education.
  • Communicate proactively with your supervisor to schedule and complete required supervision sessions, seeking feedback, initiating check-ins, and ensuring no supervision lapses occur.
  • Maintain an active certification by planning ahead and completing the recertification process before expiration, including securing updated competency assessments and required signatures.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and autonomy in upholding all BACB standards, ethical guidelines, and reporting responsibilities.
  • Engage in self-directed learning and professional growth, viewing certification not just as a credential, but as a commitment to high-quality service and clinical integrity.
