Overview
The R&D Intern – Materials Characterization will work within Shamrock’s R&D department to expand internal material evaluation capabilities using existing analytical equipment. Projects may include rheological characterization of raw materials, combined Plasma–KRÜSS surface analysis studies, and evaluation of grease additives using a four-ball wear tester.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute experimental work to meet defined project milestones and timelines
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret material property data using rheometry and complementary analytical techniques
  • Operate laboratory instruments according to established procedures and safety guidelines
  • Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and organized project records
  • Prepare technical summaries and present results to senior R&D staff
  • Learn new analytical methods and techniques as required by the project

Learning Outcomes

  • Gain hands-on experience with industrial materials characterization tools and methods
  • Develop skills in rheological data analysis and structure–property relationships
  • Learn best practices for experimental design and technical reporting in R&D
  • Understand how material property data supports formulation and product development

Qualifications

  • Current sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field
