Outreach & Marketing Intern
We are seeking a motivated, creative, and detail-oriented Outreach & Marketing Intern to support both patient engagement and awareness efforts for our rapidly expanding PKD-Free Babies Grant Program.
This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the intersection of healthcare, patient advocacy, and nonprofit marketing. The intern will support outreach to patients, clinicians, and ally organizations while also contributing to marketing and awareness initiatives that expand the reach of our program.
The intern will report to the Chief Implementation and Operations Officer and Community Outreach Manager and collaborate across initiatives that drive program growth and impact.
Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Support & Program Coordination
· Help patients understand PKD-Free grants, including a high-level overview of In Vitro Fertilization and Preimplantation Genetic Testing
· Support patient intake and communication alongside the Community Outreach Manager
· Coordinate patient funding with genetic testing companies and fertility clinics
Marketing & Communications
· Assist in creating and editing content for:
o social media (primarily X, LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok)
o email newsletters and stand-alone communications o pkdfree.org updates
· Help draft outreach emails to healthcare providers, medical students, and ally organizations
· Support development of marketing materials (flyers, one-pagers, toolkits)
· Conduct research on target audiences (medical students, clinicians, patient communities)
· Track engagement metrics (email opens, social media engagement, Google Analytics. outreach results)
Outreach & Awareness
· Support outreach initiatives to:
o medical students
o healthcare providers (nephrologists, reproductive care providers, genetic counselors, social workers)
o patient communities
· Assist with planning and coordination of virtual events, webinars, or educational sessions
· Help identify new partnership and outreach opportunities
Administrative Tasks
· Enter patient intake information into internal systems
· Maintain notes and documentation of patient communication
· Track grant disbursements and outreach activities
· Assist with scheduling and calendar coordination
Qualifications and Skills
· Incoming college junior or senior pursuing a degree in:
o Marketing
o Communications
o Public Health
o Business
o Social Work or related field
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Interest in marketing, storytelling, and outreach
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
· Familiarity with major social media platforms
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
· Compassion and empathy when working with patients
· Interest in healthcare, reproductive health, or patient advocacy
