Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Part-Time | New Jersey

Turn your passion for helping people into meaningful work with Private Care Management.

Support individuals with disabilities in building daily living skills, independence, and community connections. Students studying psychology, social work, nursing, education, and human services are encouraged to apply.

Looking for a part-time opportunity that gives you hands-on experience while making a real difference in someone's life?

Private Care Management is seeking caring, dependable, and compassionate college students and emerging professionals to work with children and individuals with developmental disabilities in their homes and communities.

As a Direct Support Professional, you'll provide companionship, support, and meaningful engagement while giving parents and primary caregivers something incredibly valuable: time to rest, recharge, and take care of other responsibilities.

This is more than a part-time position. It's an opportunity to gain valuable experience working directly with families and individuals with developmental disabilities while building skills that can support your future career.

Great experience for students studying: Psychology • Social Work • Human Services • Education • Special Education • Behavioral Health • Sociology • Nursing/Healthcare • Occupational Therapy • Speech/Communication Disorders • or related fields.

What You'll Do

  • Provide companionship and positive one-on-one support.
  • Engage individuals in activities they enjoy at home and in the community.
  • Provide caregiver relief while maintaining a safe, supportive environment.
  • Encourage independence, social interaction, and daily living skills as appropriate.
  • Assist with basic care or health-related needs when required by the individual's service plan and within your training.
  • Support appropriate goals and strategies established by the individual's professional care team.
  • Communicate professionally with families and the Private Care Management team.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for people with a heart for helping others. Previous professional experience isn't the only thing that matters—we value compassion, patience, maturity, dependability, and a willingness to learn.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and reliable transportation. DSPs must also successfully complete required State/Federal Criminal Background checks, Central Registry checks, required training, and all Private Care Management employment requirements.

Why College Students Should Apply

You'll have the opportunity to build your résumé, develop professional skills, gain direct experience with families, learn about developmental disabilities, and discover whether a helping profession is the right career path for you—all while making an immediate impact.

Your time can give a caregiver a much-needed break and give a child or individual another caring person in their corner.
