Global Field Biology Precision Agriculture Intern

The Global Field Biology Precision Agriculture Intern position is a unique and immersive opportunity to engage active or recently graduated undergraduate/graduate students in hands-on agricultural biology research. As part of the Global Development Biology Agriculture Research Station Team, the intern will be collaborating with Global Product Development and Precision Agriculture persons from across the organization to deliver timely, high-quality, field-testing results. This internship is a unique opportunity to gain experience with next generation agriculture technology including drones and artificial intelligence, while also gaining practical training in field research. With guidance from the Field Station Staff and mentor, the intern will support field research and laboratory/greenhouse assays. They will have the opportunity to participate in drone flights, prepare chemicals for treatments and perform field maintenance operations with small plot and large field equipment. This position is located at the FMC Stine Research Center - Newark, DE. 
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Collaborate with the Station Manager and Research Station Biologists to support laboratory, greenhouse, and field research
  • Assist in establishing field trials including area planning, planting, maintenance, and scouting to ensure delivery of high-quality trials
  • Coordinate and support Precision Agriculture imaging and data analysis projects in the field and report findings to the larger team
  • Collaborate with the Research Station team to input data and prepare timely trial reports which describe observations and results
  • Provide trial specific support including maintenance, treatment applications, data collection, and harvesting
  • Following training and with guidance, operate trial and farm equipment and machinery including drones, research sprayers, tractors, and others as necessary
  • Provide support as needed to the Agricultural Research Station to ensure the facilities and equipment are in safe working order and all operations meet the standards set forth by the Corporate and Global R&D organization
 
Qualifications:
  • Must be an active, or recently, graduated undergraduate or graduate student
  • Experience in scientific/operations under laboratory/field conditions is of value
  • Interest in agriculture/biological engineering, agriculture, plant and pest biology, and crop management
  • Working knowledge of agronomic row crops is of value
  • Experience, training, and/or certification in drone flying and imagery is of significant value
  • Strong organization skills and close attention to detail
  • Speaking, writing, and computer skills
  • Ability to manage time and priorities in an independent work environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and collaborative cooperation
