Summer Accounting Intern

The Finance, Administration & Operations (FAO) unit is composed of more than a half dozen teams responsible for providing a broad range of services in support of MSH's mission. Finance related services include providing accurate, complete, and timely financial information and analysis to both internal stakeholders and external donors/clients, ensuring that appropriate financial controls are in place across the organization, processing vendor payments, managing the treasury, processing payroll for U.S. staff, and providing support to project finance and accounting staff overseas.

This internship would work with the Accounting team on a variety of activities including reviewing, reconciling, and processing financial transactions, assisting with the monthly and annual close cycles, and supporting audits. The selected candidate will receive broad exposure to the accounting needs of a global non-profit organization.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Assist with processing transactions into the financial ERP system, including revenue, cash receipts, and invoices on a routine basis.  
  • Participate in the close cycles on a monthly and annual basis (we have a June 30th year-end).  
  • Participate in the annual external audit by extracting data from Costpoint and providing sample selection data to the auditors; perform analysis to ensure that monthly trends are reasonable and anomalies investigated; ad hoc analysis and other compliance-related activities.   
  • If applicable, support various donor and other compliance audits in a similar way.  
  • Assist team with reconciliation of various general ledger accounts for HQ and FO.
  • Support the review of bank accounts, advances, payroll-related liabilities, and other accounts each month.

Qualifications: 

  • Undergraduate or graduate student in Accounting (preferred), Finance, or Mathematics Programs
  • Experience using Microsoft applications including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal, coordination, and teamwork skills
