Process Engineer Intern

Internship Location: Peabody, MA

Description:

This individual will be responsible for a specific project related to gaining a better understanding of Lean tools of process flow improvement in a manufacturing environment. In the course of this work, the intern will be involved in a variety of activities which may include: 
  • Working directly with the entire Peabody team (Production and Maintenance) on the manufacturing floor to drive process and manufacturing improvements related to workflow.
  • Participate in operational efficiency, standard operating procedures, and process improvement projects for the facility, in an effort to increase operational discipline and reduce cost of poor quality (CoPQ).
  • Provides support to facility manager, shift managers, regional process engineer, operations, and R&D personnel in process improvement, process transfer, and technology improvements.
  • Research, specify, and document specifications for major unit operations equipment in H.B. Fuller Peabody plant. Such equipment would include down packing pumps, packaging equipment, centrifuges, and other ancillary equipment. 
  • Operations analysis in support of adhesives manufacture and process development; assists higher level engineers by performing assigned phases of work in more complex engineering problems.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering to be completed between December 2023 – June 2024
  • Candidate should have classroom or real experience in using AutoCAD software
  • Must have majority of Junior level coursework complete (e.g., fluid mechanics, heat transfer, reaction kinetics, mass transfer, and junior level unit operations lab)
  • Skills and ability to evaluate and optimize manufacturing processes
  • Awareness and/or Training in Lean and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Comfortable working daily in a manufacturing shop floor environment

Physical Environment:

  • Working in factory/manufacturing environment
  • While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to stand.
  • The employee is frequently required to walk, climb stairs, use hands to remove or lift boxes, stretch and reach with arms extended, and stoop.
  • Minimal Travel within the Boston area
