Engineer Intern (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical)

Position: Reclamation Engineer Intern (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical)
Duration: 11-week internship, full time. Flexible start date between May 2023 - June 2023
Location: Lakewood, CO
Compensation: $15 - $35 an hour based on experience, values are approximate.
 
Internship Description: 
The Bureau of Reclamation is hiring Engineering Interns of multiple disciplines to work for our Technical Service Center (TSC). The interns will support the TSC by completing a rigorous project which will challenge them to research and analyze engineer related content to support critical bureau operations. Other perks of the internship include a weekly professional development series for all interns, field trip to local Reclamation facilities, personal mentorship, and networking activities with engineering faculty.
 
Reclamation’s Technical Service Center provides innovative solutions to water and power resource issues to all bureau personnel. The TSC consists of approximately 565 scientists, engineers, and other professional staff and operates a world-class hydraulic engineering laboratory. Although focused on Reclamation’s mission, TSC also consults for other Federal agencies as well as works with state and private entities.
 
TSC continually has a wide variety of engineering or STEM related project occurring at any given time. TSC Engineer Interns will be assigned to a 11-week project that will align with their education, experience, and career goals. The internship will conclude with the Intern giving a presentation on their experience, research, and further recommendations to key Reclamation stakeholders.
 
Interns will be assigned a mentor and participate in weekly meetings with said mentor and other bureau personnel to discuss their project, gather information, and provide recommendations. Interns will be provided the opportunity to attend meetings related to Department of Interior and Reclamation engineering communities to gain a broader understanding of the processes that influence Reclamation’s core mission and operations. These meetings provide an excellent opportunity to develop communication skills and an understanding of federal government operations.
 
Special or Preferred skills
The ideal candidate: 
  • Has experience or education in engineering or STEM
  • Is proficient in communicating clearly
  • Has the ability to work independently
  • Uses critical thinking skill to solve problems in an innovative way and think of potential projects
  • Has past leadership experience
  • Interested in learning about STEM and/or engineering roles in the federal government
 
Minimum Qualifications
·      Available to work full-time (40 hours per week), for the entirety of the 11 week internship
·      Enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program at the start of the internship
·      Education, coursework, or experience in the following disciplines: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydrology, Materials Engineering, Water Asset Management, Biology or Economics
·      US citizenship or permanent residency.
·      Must pass a government background check if selected.
