High-Throughput Flow Cytometry Internship - Summer 2023

Position Summary

Leads Discovery & Optimization (LDO) is a diverse group of scientists and engineers, providing critical assay information to therapeutic research centers (TRCs) throughout research and early development (R&ED).  We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative intern to join the High-Throughput Flow Cytometry team within LDO. Project objectives include the development of multi-color flow cytometry panels to enable deep immune cell phenotyping.

We invite undergraduates with appropriate training from all backgrounds to apply for this internship in our muti-disciplinary team. You will work in a highly dynamic environment at the center of the R&ED drug discovery engine to apply cutting-edge flow cytometry technologies to drug discovery. You will be assigned a project that integrates with the flow cytometry team’s objectives and core mission to establish high-throughput flow cytometry panels to profile immune cell phenotypes. Importantly, this opportunity will expose you to a broad range of experimental techniques, such as flow cytometry, cell culture, high-dimensional data analysis and advance your technical skills to the next level! 
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Execute general mammalian tissue culture for maintaining cell lines.
  • Execute cell-staining experiments and perform sample analysis using flow cytometry.
  • Analyze flow cytometry data from multi-color flow cytometry experiments. Experience with FlowJo software is a plus.
  • Maintain accurate record of experiments and procedures.
  • Prepare and present results to team members.
  • Perform literature/data review, and/or computational analyses.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Junior, Senior, or Sophomore undergraduate enrolled in a full-time university program which includes or approves a 12-week intern experience at BMS, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in technically relevant field, such as Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology etc.
  • Hands-on experience with wet lab techniques such as mammalian cell culture, cell staining, and/or imaging are preferred.
  • Knowledge or familiarity with flow cytometry is a plus.
  • Experience with data analysis is preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and ability to work in a team is required.
