Field Applications Systems Engineer

The Bruker Nano Field Application and System Engineer L3 is an ambassador of Bruker Nano Surfaces “BNS” instrumentation and technology. Bruker Nano Surfaces manufactures the world's leading Atomic Forces Microscopes, NanoIR systems, Stylus profilers, Mechanical Testers, and non-contact 3D optical microscope instrumentation. This technical role is responsible for customer direct post-sale instrumentation and application support including: installation, user and application training, instrument diagnostics/fix, post-sale applications support, and developing customer specific application protocols. Individual must be customer focused with a strong technical background enabling our customers to maintain their instrument at peak performance and maximize productivity for their intended use case.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
70% Customer empowerment and post-sale application support activities including:
 
1. Empower customers to optimize performance of their BNS instrument through support and instruction including but not limited to:
   a. Teaching theory of operation and training across a vast technical range of users on instrument    operation and applications
   b. Demonstration of instrument ability on non-standard samples
   c. Provide user and customer specific post-sale application support
   d. Test, develop, and optimize application protocols
   e. Author application notes, user/applications procedures, and user/applications training material
 
30% Service activities including:
 
2. Install and qualify BNS standard and specialized instrument, upgrade, and/or accessory including but not limited to:
  a. Uncrating instrumentation and interconnection of sub-components and assemblies
  b. Instrument start-up troubleshooting
  c. Qualification of instrument and accessories using standard and agreed to non-standard samples.
3. Work directly with customers to diagnose BNS instrument issues including but not limited to
  a. Diagnose, research, test, develop, optimize, communicate, and execute the most efficient solution plan for complex electro mechanical hardware/software instrument issues.
  b. Create and maintain record of activity in support database
4. Preventative maintenance on BNS instrumentation which can include but not limited to:
  a. Basic maintenance and calibration of instrument and accessories
  b. Re-certification of system using both standard and non-standard samples.
 
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
·  Other duties as assigned
 
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
·  85% travel both domestically and internationally on short notice
·  Able to work in Government sites, cleanroom, production floor, & laboratory environments
·  Must have & maintain valid driver’s license

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Customer focused, passionate about science and technology, and eager to enable customers with Bruker Nano technology. Proven expertise in AFM technology, NanoIR, and/or other surface analysis techniques. Proven excellent analytical capability, theoretical understanding of physics, working knowledge of electronics, mechanics, control systems, computers, networking, and common tooling such as oscilloscope, multi-meter, etc… to be an effective problem solver of complex system, product user, and/or application issues. Proven ability to install, qualify and be a trainer and technical resource that empowers our customers in the use of complex electro-mechanical instrumentation and application modules. Proven ability to experiment, test, optimize, and develop best practice for support and post-sale application activity. Proven ability to provide clear, logical, and effective communication. Proven ability to develop, communicate, implement, and execute assigned project including achieving required deliverables on time.
 
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of bachelor’s or master’s degree in scientific or engineering field from accredited university or college with 3 year relevant experience, or doctorate degree, PhD, in scientific or engineering field from accredited university or college.
