Position Title:         Process/Manufacturing Engineer                                                                        

Reports to (Title):   General Manager

Department:            Operations

Location:                 Shelby Township, Michigan

Basic Purpose and Objective:
  • The manufacturing engineering position at Haeger is a hands-on, active role in the manufacturing process that will spend significant time working with the production team on the plant floor. The engineer will be expected to quickly familiarize themselves with the Haeger product and begin implementing projects within the plant to improve manufacturing quality and efficiency.  This facility is early in its lean transformation and this position will be a high visibility opportunity to implement lean manufacturing and a wide variety of other projects within Haeger.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  •  Support manufacturing by resolving production issues, documenting solutions, and defining continuous improvement opportunities
  • Drive continuous improvement in the manufacturing process using lean manufacturing and six sigma methodology
  • Lead Kaizen events and help foster a culture of lean on the production floor
  • Support new product development by completing product testing and industrialization for the manufacturing process
  • Document best practices in all business processes through the development and maintenance of work instructions
  • Perform analysis on manufacturing data to finds insights and opportunities for improvement
  • Design fixtures, tools, and processes to improve the workflow in assembly and machining

  • Follow all safety requirements to avoid injury to self and fellow employees.
  • Create and maintain a safe work environment; repair and/or report non-conformances to company safety policies and guidelines
  • Perform the necessary safety requirements to avoid injury to self and fellow employees
  • Housekeeping/6S

Work Environment:
  • Un-air-conditioned manufacturing facility with good air quality
  • Manufacturing floor supporting production in inspection tasks and nonconforming identification
  • Lab performing tests
  • May work with gauge calibration
 
Physical Demands:
  • 75% of the time is walking and/or standing. 25% of the time is sitting
  • Attention to detail is necessary
  • Ability to see small visual defects on parts

Education and Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial, or related engineering discipline
  • 3+ years in a manufacturing environment, preferably machine assembly and machining
  • 1+ years using lean methods and leading improvement projects on the plant floor
  • Ability to organize, plan, and perform multiple projects and meet deadlines with excellent quality and service
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office products (word, excel and PowerPoint)
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills including professional phone etiquette
  • Experience using 3D CAD/CAM software, preferably SolidWorks
  • Familiarity with an ERP/MRP system and their functions

Position Type/Expectations of Working Hours:
  • Full time position
  • Working hours 7 AM – 3:30 PM (8-10 hours a day)
  • Must be able to work Monday - Friday
