Florida Applied Research Seasonal Employee

The seasonal Applied Research employee will be involved in day-to-day AR program activities and data collection in both test plot and grower field settings. These responsibilities will include (but not limited to) field observations, collecting yield data, postharvest berry evaluations, and pick plot data collection (harvesting) on grower fields. This employee will work closely with the local Applied Research Scientist and interact with multiple departments within Driscoll’s including Breeding, R&D Farming, Production, QA, and more.
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Have 1-3 years of professional work experience.
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.
  • Experience in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Candidate must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently with minimal instruction.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Have flexibility in working hours (Monday through Friday)
  • Have reliable transportation to work location. Be able to work in an office, commercial cooler, and an outdoor field environment where temperatures and conditions can be variable.
  • Candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with other team members.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

•   Florida driver’s license and the ability to be covered under company-sponsored vehicle insurance program.
•   Be focused, detail oriented, and able to work independently.
•   Be reliable, honest, passionate, and trustworthy with strong communication skills.
•   Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in test plot observations and data collection within the raspberry test plot. This includes, but is not limited to, measuring bud break, making sure canes are trained, scouting for pests and other issues, transporting and submitting fruit for flavor testing, QA and shipping.
  • Accurately and efficiently assist the team in sampling strawberries for nutrient analysis submissions. This will include working with our local labs that provide testing.
  • Assist field observations via iForm app submissions.
  • Collect and prepare yield data from pick plots established at grower fields in on-farm row trials.
  • Ensure Driscoll’s confidential and proprietary information and materials.
  • Adhere to food safety requirements while on the job sites.
