INTERN, QUALITY CONTROL ANALYTICAL LABORATORY

Who We Are

BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.

SUMMARY:

The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.  

BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These individuals build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.

The Quality Control Laboratory (QC) within the Quality Assurance and Technical Operations Organization is responsible for the GMP testing, review and approval of product samples. The Quality Control Analytical Team applies analytical chemistry methodologies to guarantee product quality for lot release and the Stability programs.  

JOB DESCRIPTION/PROJECT:  

The selected candidate will report to the QC Analytical Organization to assist in the Enzyme Replacement Therapies Testing Laboratory. The selected candidate will own a project that will include basic training in GMP laboratory techniques and procedures and will work with Lean Six Sigma tools for laboratory continuous improvement.  

Basic Biochemistry or Analytical Chemistry knowledge is preferred.  

Required Skills:

  • Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and manage tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Interest in pursuing a career in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry

Qualifications/Eligibility:

  • Student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in sciences (Chemistry or Biochemistry).
  • Student must be returning to school in the Fall Term OR has graduated within the 1 year of the start of the program.
  • Must be available to work 40 hours a week
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship

In the U.S., the hiring range for this position is $ 21.00 to $ 25.00 per hour. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
