Intern, Business Operations, TechOps

Who We Are 

BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.

SUMMARY:

The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.

The TechOps group within Novato Business Operations, directly supports commercial drug manufacturing through technical writing and operational support through operational excellence to ensure drug product is made on schedule, in full, in a safe and compliant manner.

JOB DESCRIPTION/PROJECT:

The primary project will be to observe and review critical manufacturing procedures during operations to eliminate waste, improve accuracy, minimize safety risks, and prevent deviations by comparing practice to procedure. This role will work closely with manufacturing operators, Operational Excellence practitioners, and technical writers.

  • Reviewing and revising documents
  • Evaluating processes and procedures with support of SMEs
  • Assisting in the implementation and monitoring of improvements
  • Preparing and presenting on findings and improvements

Required Skills:

  • Superior customer service and interpersonal skills
  • A strong interest and curiosity in operational excellence and continuous improvement
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Desired Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience or knowledge in lean or GMP regulated facilities is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications/Eligibility:

  • Student pursuing an Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering or other technical field.  
  • Student must be returning to school in the Fall Term OR has graduated within the 1 year of the start of the program.  
  • Must be available to work 40 hours a week
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship

In the U.S., the salary range for this position is $ 21.00 to $ 25.00 per hour, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
