About us:
The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country.
Position Description:
Interns will work with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department’s Natural Resources Management Division to restore forested habitat along waterways in City of Houston Parks. The project is part of the City’s Riparian Restoration Initiative to restore forested riparian habitat within all parks adjacent to waterways. Additionally, interns will work to restore coastal prairie habitat within park nature preserves. Interns will conduct invasive species removal and tree, understory, and prairie plantings. They will conduct maintenance activities in the restored areas to support the establishment of the riparian forest and coastal prairie.

Member Marginal Duties:
Working with volunteers and propagation or planting events
Plant propagation
Operation of small equipment, such as weed eaters
Herbicide application
Member Required Qualifications:
None
Member Preferred Qualifications:
Some coursework within a Natural Resources Field Plant identification;
Comfortable working outside;
Invasive species removal
Additional physical requirements and working conditions of the member position.
Must be able to lift 25 pounds;
Perform strenuous activities in harsh conditions;
Work in outdoor setting
Member Benefits:
Living Allowance: $520 per week;
Commuter Allowance: $80 per week;
