Health & Wellness Coordinator
Position Summary:
Health & Wellness Coordinators are responsible for managing the medical room of the program and overseeing the Wellness Assistants. They are tasked with collecting and holding student’s medication; establishing a medical distribution schedule; ensuring proper documentation of all medicine distribution, illness, injuries and other complaints in the CampDoc system; and, ensuring proper protocol and program policies are followed. The Health & Wellness Coordinator will also be responsible for implementing the program’s protocol in the event of a student or staff illness or medical situation or emergency. This individual will also be responsible for the mental health and wellbeing of participants and staff and will support this effort by holding regular office hours, and through leading classes on meditation, relaxation, yoga, or others approved by the Pre-College staff. The Health & Wellness Coordinator will also work to ensure the privacy of program staff and participants at all times and ensure the campus partners and Pre-College staff are made aware of all medical events in a timely manner and as outlined by the program guidelines. This individual will report directly to the Residential Director. They will be responsible for designing and implementing a schedule among the Wellness Assistants and assigned Lead Residential Assistant Staff to ensure at least two wellness staff members per grade group, are available and on-call 24 hours a day throughout the duration of the program and that medication management, transportation to clinics or emergency rooms office hours within the student residential halls are operational from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm each day and at least one member per grade group is on call for the remaining hours. The Health & Wellness Coordinator will also communicate regularly with and be available to the Student Health Center and staff when necessary. Health & Wellness Coordinators are required to live on site and be accessible as needed for emergencies.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, psychiatry, physical education or therapy, occupation therapy, or other medical related field. Master's degree is preferred Experience with emergency medical training such as CPR, choking treatments and medical condition triage and working with adolescents and youth programming is preferred. A successful candidate will possess the ability to work independently; enjoy working with young people; and, be able to provide leadership for the students and staff.
Expectations:
Live on campus during Duke Pre-College summer program dates and maintain high visibility and availability for the duration of the program.
Conduct self in an exemplary manner at all times through leadership, honesty, integrity, and maintain a high standard of behavior.

Effectively manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
Maintain the highest level of attention to risk management and safety for staff and students.
Understand and adhere to FERPA, HIPPA, TITLE IX, and confidentiality guidelines.
Possess cultural sensitivity awareness and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Work with the Duke Pre-College administrative team to train and mentor Residential staff.
Lead, guide, and support students and staff and set the tone of the site through a consistent, positive interpersonal style while performing job duties.
Remain committed to working as a team player and have the ability to work independently when appropriate.
Uphold all Duke University policies as applied to the Duke Pre-College Summer Programs.
Set up a functioning health & wellness office and ensure that it is covered during its scheduled hours.
Collaborate with the Wellness Assistants and other staff to create a system for documenting and monitoring student medications.
Store medications for students that have been approved by their physicians.
Take a lead during medical situations while following program’s protocol.
Document details of student illnesses, ongoing health problems, and health emergencies.
Participate in programs’ residential orientations.
Keep an accurate running list of all medical supplies that are needed.
Collect and report receipts for purchases made and document them accordingly.
Unpack and inventory all medical supplies at the start of the program, and inventory and pack at the end of the program.
Organize, implement and oversee process to collect medications on arrival and departure days and confirm any specific medical needs with the participant.
Work in unison with and receive mentorship from the PK-20 Permanent Staff.
Communicate closely with residential and logistics staff to ensure all team members are aware of program’s medical policies.
Work with PK-20 Permanent Staff to develop a plan for responding to medical emergencies as they arise.
Ensure that at least one Wellness Assistant/Lead Resident Assistant per residential hall is on call at all times.
Ability to work with various office equipment including, but not limited to: office phones, cell phones, computers, recreational equipment, photo copiers, etc.
Communicate with families or participants in coordination with the PK-20 permanent staff and as outlined in program guidelines.
Perform additional duties as deemed necessary by Duke Pre-College Program Director.
Duke University has a zero-tolerance for inappropriate behavior of any kind, including child sex abuse or misconduct.
Adults interacting with minors are mandated reporters per the state of North Carolina.
Additional Requirements:
Provide documentation of a clean driving record from the last three years, and successfully pass training and other requirements of Duke University regarding driving participants.
Agree to all duties before, during, and after the program as outlined in the staff materials.
Abide by Duke policies that the unauthorized use, possession, storage, manufacture, distribution and sale of alcohol, controlled substances, and illegal drugs is prohibited on Duke’s premises or during any business conducted in Duke-supplied vehicles during program dates.
Recognize that Duke is a Smoke-Free campus and prohibits the use of all tobacco-based products, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, hookahs, chewing tobacco, snuff, and electronic smoking devices such as e-cigarettes, vaping products, and IQOS.
Provide a written report after the program to the director outlining program highlights and success as well as suggestions for future improvement and growth.
Successfully pass the Duke University criminal background check, online training for working with minors, and any other training required by the program.
Ability to move, or push objects by using hands and arms to install or position materials up to 40 lbs.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and crawl for prolonged periods of time to perform general operations.
Maintain constant contact with others by interacting with staff and students and within residential living situations and campus facilities.
Ability to walk daily throughout the assigned campus while supervising students to/from all destinations.
This position is a full-time commitment, and having another job or taking a class during the contracted period is prohibited.
