What I liked

The people at Goldman are great dependable coworkers. When you need something, they help get it done efficiently and effectively.

What I wish was different

I wish I’d been able to use my interest and expertise in statistics more.

Advice

Goldman is a great company. It’s very likely that they have teams and spots you’ll enjoy. It’s a longer week there than most places. It’s a bit of a competitive environment, but a solid group with great starting pay.

Operations Summer Analyst

May - August 2019 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

Incredible people. Huge learning experience because assignments were more ambiguous, but everyone was so gracious about answering any and as many questions as you had. I could also learn about anyone else’s role and try it out. Mentoring program is out of this world. Seminars, social events, and community service opportunities were also great!

What I wish was different

Nothing honestly. It exceeded my expectations!

Advice

Be 100% yourself and always allow your intellectual curiosity to guide you.

Operations Summer Analyst

May - August 2019 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

I really enjoyed learning from a wide range of professionals in such a dynamic environment. I gained a lot of new technical skills while also expanding my own personal network and knowledge of financial markets.

What I wish was different

I wish that there had been more thorough training at the beginning of the internship. I also wish that the intern project for the summer had been more clearly outlined from the start.

Advice

The summer analyst position is a great opportunity to not only gain a greater understanding of what your specific team does, but also of other Goldman Sachs teams and functions. I really enjoyed getting to know people on other teams and in different divisions to learn more about how the firm functions as a whole. Through talking with people in different divisions throughout the summer, I was able to gain a better understanding of what division I felt would be the best fit for me for a full-time position as well.

Securities Division Analyst

May - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

My summer experience at GS was absolutely amazing—the most fulfilling experience I’ve ever had. GS is an amazing company that really believes in building up their people, maintaining healthy work-life balances, team driven environments, and giving back to communities. I feel like I’ve grown so much over the span of 3 months, thanks to Goldman Sachs. I’ve been able to further develop and hone my skills, and learn new ones.

Securities Summer Analyst

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

It was competitive and high pressure. It was very fast paced and there was a steep learning curve. I enjoyed the support from professionals that I received through relationships I built.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more technical preparation on campus before starting the summer. Students came in with different levels of preparedness and I sometimes felt behind the learning curve.

Advice

Have a clear understanding of your skills and interests before hand. Learn how to pitch yourself in 30 seconds to a minute and practice.

Summer Analyst

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Being able to experience what it would be like working as a full time analyst at the firm. It was also a very collaborative environment and I was able to work with many different team members and other interns.

What I wish was different

I wish the training at the start of the summer had been more technical based. A lot of what we did was focused on the culture of the firm rather than hard skills like excel.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is to network with other people on your team as well as other people in the firm. No matter what company you work for this is valuable to expand your network and learn more about what you want to do in the future.

Summer Analyst

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

You will learn more in 10 weeks than years of class. The caliber of people is unmatched. You are challenged but supported.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have focused more on expressing who I was than my ability to digest the difficult material.

Advice

Relax but give your all everyday. Focus on being the best version of yourself and let it show through your work and relationships.

Summer Analyst

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Hardworking environment; early responsibility they give you in the internship; career optionality

What I wish was different

Earlier opportunity to network with various groups within Securities division before the internship starts

Advice

To spend as much time leading up to the internship preparing to hit the ground running (keeping up with global news, getting into the habit of waking up early and working long hours, etc.); after the internship, to reflect on whether it's what you see yourself doing full time vs. something else at Goldman or elsewhere

Investment Management Summer Analyst

June - August 2019 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

Great people and an awesome location.

What I wish was different

Wasn't given tasks that really pertained to the job.

Advice

Try to get in at a different office. I applied for Salt Lake City but I likely would have learned a lot more in a bigger hub.
